It is a muggy Friday morning. 76°F is a fine temperature but the 85% humidity coats the lungs with water and makes breathing hard. The world is still very green and lush with summer's bounty. There is a very slight breeze that flutters the hair around the cheek but not the tree leaves. Even the willow is only moving the very ends of its long branches. Puck barks at everything – other dogs, squirrels, rabbits – real and imagined. An aroma of freshly cut grass and dry foliage fills the air and makes the mind wander to fields of wild flowers and Kansas prairies. When Puck needs to stop and rest in the shade, we return to our home....cozy and cool...with the familiar hum of air conditioning and the smell of fresh coffee. Puck takes a long drink and settles into his early morning nap. I doctor up my decaf making it creamy and sweet and sit down to write to you. It has all the makings of a great morning.

Hope your weekend walks like an Egyptian, ePistliers

My Own Writing of the Week: Now, Daphne would have waited until Apollo fell asleep to take her fleshy form again, but she was hit by a stray ray. She abruptly landed in his lap with a shriek and a large burn in her Vuitton. Apollo was delighted. Daphne was slyly indignant - mostly because she believed a pout showed off her lip line well. Words were exchanged, apologies made and with one thing and another it was a full century before either of them bothered to leave the glade. So it began.

We've all heard the story of how it ended. It's a myth, of course, created much later by Apollo's monks to foster a more macho image. Actually, he rejected her. Apollo became jealous - or perhaps simply bored - with the annual orgies run by Daphne in the name of the Great Mother. She had been its leader for a thousand years before he met her. It was her function, after all, and her only hold on immortality. And...she was good at her job, efficient and professional, which meant she and the congregation always had a good time. --From a short story called Daphne and Apollo
