It
is a breezy (NNW, 13 mph) Friday morning. The 45°F temperature
requires a actual coat and hat as we start on our walk. The sky is
absolutely clear of cloud or jet trail but is filled with birds and
their songs. From the hacking caws of the murder of crows dopplering
west to east, to the “sing it, sing it” from an unseen bird high
in tree across the yard, the chatter of sparrows everywhere, to the
silent robins hopping through the grass, birds rule the morning.
Puck and I walk under waving willow branches now almost fully leaved
and through piles of white flower petals blown to the edges of the
sidewalks. The sun, just clearing the tree line to the east, spreads
yellow warmth and clears color from shadow...the tiny purple violets
and hyacinths hidden in the grass, the purple red bud, and the golden
tulips. The parkward arc of the cul-de-sac still smells of damp soil
and dead foliage from earlier rains and awakens the nose as we walk
by. Puck barks at the robins who hop over a few feet in annoyance.
We stop at the mailbox on our way back home, but it is empty. So we
make our way back to the house. Now I sit with a cup of steaming,
creamy coffee and thoughts of you in my head. What a morning.
Hope
your weekend explodes with fun, ePistliers.
There
once was a monastery that was very strict. Following a vow of
silence, no one was allowed to speak at all. But there was one
exception to this rule. Every ten years, the monks were permitted to
speak just two words. After spending his first ten years at the
monastery, one monk went to the head monk. "It has been ten
years," said the head monk. "What are the two words you
would like to speak?" "Bed... hard..." said the monk.
"I see," replied the head monk. Ten years later, the monk
returned to the head monk's office. "It has been ten more
years," said the head monk. "What are the two words you
would like to speak?" "Food... stinks..." said the
monk. "I see," replied the head monk. Yet another ten years
passed and the monk once again met with the head monk who asked,
"What are your two words now, after these ten years?" "I...
quit!" said the monk. "Well, I can see why," replied
the head monk. "All you ever do is complain."
