It's crucial to understand that as a society, we can reorganize. We can reorganize socially, politically, and economically, and we can reorganize according to our values. --Rebecca Adamson
It is a chilly (27°F) Friday morning. There is not a cloud in the sky, not even a waning jet trail and the breeze is light but cold. Bird song is full and varied from the cheeing of the starling flock, the call and answer of unseen cardinals to the friendly chirping of the sparrows. There is even a woodpecker somewhere beating out percussion. Puck runs the perimeter and determines neither squirrels nor rabbits haunt the backyard and so he moves on to smell smaller, interior clumps of grass. The cold has muted recent scents of spring...soil and dampness, growth and flowers. It's true the willow is dressed in spring green and showing it off in the wind. And trees with white blossoms are dancing about in their new clothes. If it weren't cold, it would be a delightful sight. But I retreat to the breezeless inside, to the warmth and hum of the furnace, to the smell and taste of fresh brewed decaf. I observe a moment of silence, mouth full of the taste of sweet coffee, thoughts of you in my head. Ahhh, and then the trash truck passes by, straining to a stop, and crashes and banging trash cans. Reality intrudes again.
Hope the weekend is a grace note**, ePistliers.
**Bagpiper's grace note - a short note which isn't part of the melody and doesn't officially take up any time

It is a toasty (64°F) Tuesday morning. The breeze comes in gusts but cannot blow away the balmy temperature. It can and does move the lesser, lower clouds – puffs of gray under the streaks below the solid layer – towards the northeast. The air is filled with bird songs; some is familiar, the call and answer of the cardinal, the atonal chirp of sparrows. Some are strange and new sung by unseen birds in leafless trees. The world smells of dampness but does not look like rain – past, present, or future. I pull it deep into my lungs and savor the earthy fragrance. Puck dominated the soundtrack for a while chasing away a couple of squirrels who were enjoying an early breakfast around the bird feeders. The screen door is open on the deck and three other dogs come to present a front against the squirrels and the two little boys on bikes wheeling their way to school. The uproar is great. Still, I linger not wanting to leave the warm outdoor. But coffee calls me and eventually I make my way back here to a cup of sweet, creamy tartness and the chance to wish you such a wonderful party that it will take 40 days to repent.

Don’t let complexity stop you. Be activists. Take on the big inequities. It will be one of the great experiences of your lives,” --Bill Gates
It is a windy (W 15 mph) Friday morning. The sky is a textureless gray without a hint of the wind so apparent down here. A mist fills the air with precipitation that's not actually falling but hanging midair. Puck finishes his business, sends out a few token barks in the direction of the tree, and returns indoors. I have not finished my business and so I stand in the wind allowing the sprinkles to kiss my cheek. It is above freezing (37°F) but the wind shaves off a few points and the feel of winter has returned. A few birds are under the feeder but they are singing no morning greetings; that is reserved to motor cars and trash trucks. The tree limbs are still bare of leaves but the younger trees have swelling buds whipping around like frenzied but softened switches. The tall grass in the yard down the way reminds me of an artist hurriedly painting the sky with a brown brush. I try to take a last deep breath but the humidity thwarts me and I follow Puck to the warm indoors, to the smell of brewing coffee and soap. Best of all I get to sit down with a sweet, creamy cup of Northwest Blend and thoughts of you. Make it all worthwhile.
Hope your weekend hits the highball, ePistliers
Poor Old fool,” thought the well-dressed gentleman as he watched an old man fishing in a puddle outside a pub. So he invited the old man inside for a drink. As they sipped their whiskeys, the gentleman thought he’d humor the old man and asked, “So how many have you caught today?” The old man replied, “You’re the eighth.”
